A modern take on a historic property

PHILO - NO ONE EVER LEAVES ON TIME

Between the towering redwoods, the gorgeous vistas, the incredible wines and delicious food it truly is hard to leave Philo on time. Those Monday meetings suddenly become less important and connecting to beauty and nature is so mesmerizing and a respite from hectic everyday life. We aim to provide everything you’ll need for a smashing event, plenty of giggles, and a restful and cozy stay.

A little bit of our story...

The first time we saw The Knotty Oak, we were blown away by its history, charm & resilient beauty. The oldest house in Philo from 1888, it was Anderson Valley’s first post office and a stagecoach stop that decades later turned into the Philo Pottery Inn. We knew it was destined for more. During the painstaking restoration this past decade using nearly all salvaged materials, its secrets and history began to resurface. With so much delight, we were constantly discovering little finds... from over 200 late 1800 tinted glass bottles buried across the grounds to the homestead’s original brick lined well to the headline clad 1915 newspaper lined walls in the main house. We also incorporated lots of little surprises…- which ones will you find?

It’s been part remodel, excavation and archeological dig. And we hope it never ends. Now it’s ready to host events and make fresh memories for decades to come. Come see for yourself and be part of its future & evolving history.
